The HHD generator concept was developed in collaboration with Hyundai Power Equipment. The design aims at increasing brand loyalty in the entry level to mid-range market through feature driven innovations.
Existing Hyundai interfaces were analyzed to understand problems with the user experience. Findings showed a lack of intuition in the startup procedure, leading to the product not being used in a timely or seamless manner.
Hyundai’s porfolio of existing generators showed strong presence in the mid range household market. The offering showed possible room from growth into the higher end category.
An I-beam inspired tube frame was chosen due to its structural integrity while seamlessly incorporating a robust sliding handle mechanism.
The frame design lends itself to being easily clad from all sides to hide the engine, giving the product a less utilitarian appearance. Each 'face' of the cladding is treated as an interface meant to provide a linear, unified user experience.
Other improvements include a cable management system, more efficient gas tank shape, duplex safety covers, as well as a revised colour brand scheme.
